STRUCTURAL DESIGN
Structural design determines the type of structure that is suitable for a particular purpose, the materials to be used, the loads and other actions that the structure must sustain, and the arrangement, layout and dimensions of its various components.
Structural design involves detailed calculations to ensure that:
- the structure is stable
- all parts have adequate strength to resist the design loads
- the structure as a whole will remain serviceable throughout its design life and able to perform its intended function.
- the structure is economical to build
Finally, structural design involves the careful preparation of structural drawings that will communicate the engineering design to the contractors who will build the structure.
Structural Drawings are a set of technical drawings of a construction project which include foundation layout and details, floor layout plans, floor slab reinforcement plans, roof layout and details, beam and column details, slab details, staircase plan, section and details, etc. All 2+ storeyed buildings and some others structures cannot be constructed without this set of drawings. It is also a requirement in most countries in order to obtain a construction permit and also get your plans approved. For buildings, this set of drawings follows the architectural drawings set.
Tern designs ably provides this set of drawings; the company is capacitated with a team of professional Civil/Structural Engineers who do the structural analysis and design of these structures. Finally detailing is done for these designs.
